The core units you complete will build the key skills needed to work in early childhood education and care. You'll learn to care for babies and toddlers, develop positive relationships with children, support holistic development, support children's play and learning, and identify and respond to children at risk. To prepare for the workplace, you’ll be required to complete supervised work placements where you’ll gain real-world experience. The electives you complete will depend on the institution you choose to study with.
Typically, there are no educational prerequisites for this course. Some institutions may set their own requirements for entry, which could include meeting set literacy and numeracy standards.
This course prepares you for entry-level positions in the early childhood education and care industry, including in childcare centres, kindergartens or as a Nanny. It is generally considered the minimum requirement needed to work in the industry.
If you are interested in moving into senior roles, then you may want to consider the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care. In some instances you may be able to enrol directly into this course without completing the Certificate III.
The final cost of this course will depend on a number of factors including your personal circumstances, previous experience and unit selections. As a general guide, if you are eligible for a subsidised place, it's likely to cost between $4,000 and $5,000. Most TAFEs do offer a concession rate, in which case, you could pay as little as $600.
